The Netgear WGR614 wirekess router range doesn’t reach to my laptop in my room which is in the garage behind my mom’s house. I talked to someone who is somewhat knowledgeable with computers who said I need to get a repeater or bridge. I need to know if I need to get a specific repeater that is compatible with my mom’s router or can I get any one that I find that looks like it’ll work.

I had the same problem with the several laptops in my home. I can’t remember the Netgear wireless router model number I used because that was several years ago. Anything before breakfast is a blur to me. An ethernet bridge should do the trick for you, it did for me. You may be able to take your pick from whatever you think may work. I’m a little more conventional and try and keep all of my wireless devices and modems of the same “brand”. Here is the (updated) unit I had Netgear XE102 in 2 rooms of my house. Once I plugged them into the 2 bedrooms I needed them in, everything worked beautifully.
