Ethernet Cable or Wireless Network Adapter?

Most speed from Ethernet cable or wireless network adapter?

I use the Internet quite a lot. Should I get a 50ft Ethernet cable to go from my computer to my modem or should I just use a wireless network adapter.

Recently I got U-verse, so my modem is now downstairs with my TV. I used to use an Ethernet cable, but now I’m wondering if i should continue to use Ethernet and buy a 50ft cord, or just use a wireless network adapter.

Do they both deliver relatively the same speed?

Hello there!

I had the same question myself a year or so ago. It really depends on what you use your computer for. If you’re into online gaming or lots of music downloads, the Ethernet cable may be better for you. Although this isn’t necessarily true.

For regular applications, you shouldn’t notice much difference at all between Ethernet or a wireless network adapter in terms of speed or reliability.

What I did was “not decide” until I used the wireless for a while. I got everything set up knowing in my mind that it may not stay that way. Good thing I did that too, as I had to move around a bit to find the better connection spot. But once I did, I was really happy with the set up.

My wireless network adapter worked no different than a direct connection as far as speed.

I’m on Clear now and they’re all about wireless however most people haven’t even heard of them yet. I hadn’t heard of Uverse from AT& T before. It looks like a great service to have!

Put to you this way. If I could get U-verse in my area, I’d do it. Yes, I knocked AT&T for not meeting their target goals, as did many media outlets. While I think AT&T & Microsoft were perhaps 1-2 years too early with their proprietary technology, it is still a good solution.I’m just not a fan of proprietary solutions. AT&T and Microsoft have had a bumpy road, but I think AT&T & Microsoft have worked out most of the kinks. (read his article here, it’s really good)

Bottom line, unless you’re a heavy duty gamer (and still test it for yourself), you should be absolutely fine with a wireless network adapter.

Hope this helped!
