I just purchased a dish network package with a DVR and didn’t know enough to ask this question when they were here installing, so I’m tuning to y’all
.
The tech said that the receiver will overheat, so to turn it off when the TV isn’t being watched. However, I’d like to record movies or shows after I go to bed or am at work.
Will it still record those if I’ve turned off the receiver? And how worried should I be about the unit overheating?

Hi there,
Do you have the 622 model? I had the 622 at one time and it over heated too. However, what I learned was if your receiver doesn’t allow for air flow around it, you’re going to run the risk of it overheating. Same thing as your computer.
If it’s out in the open, that shouldn’t happen.
That is… except for the 622. When mine overheated I found I wasn’t alone as a slew of people had this issue.
I don’t ever turn my receiver off now.
